Taco Bell’s meat ward could backfire, experts say

Fast food chain Taco Bell has launched TV, radio and social media ads and a special offer to battle back against claims that its beef is mostly filler.
But local marketing and advertising experts wonder whether the ads are a smart move or whether they’ll leave a bad taste in people’s mouths.
A lawsuit filed in January by Alabama law firm Beasley Allen on behalf of a California woman questioned Taco Bell’s taco meat, saying it was made of only 35 percent beef.
News of the lawsuit has been widespread, and now Taco Bell is fighting to regain control of its image.
Already, the hasty food company, which is a unit of Yum Brands Inc., has bought full-page newspaper ads in some zones headlined, "Thank you for suing us." The commercials feature actual Taco Bell employees "sharing the straight facts about Taco Bell’s seasoned beef."
"Our seasoned meat is 88 percentage premium ground beef," one employee in the television ad says, "and 12 percentage signature recipe," adds dissimilar employee.
"If you want to see that signature recipe, go to tacobell.com. It’s right there," says a third.
